Subject:              Camp Vista

                        September 23 & 24, 2010

Dear Fifth & Fourth Grade Parents,

As your child approaches sixth & fifth grade, we would like to make you aware of an event planned for them. In September of each year, the Sheboygan city and county Catholic schools participate in a camp experience. Our students will spend two days at Camp Vista in the Kettle Moraine area for an outdoor education experience. A wide variety of educational, social, and religious activities are planned for this event.

You will receive more detailed information about this event at Registration on August 11th. For now, we would like to share a few things. First, we would like to share the dates for camp this fall. The students will leave on the morning of Thursday, September 23rd and return in the afternoon of Friday, September 24th. Second, and most importantly, we are in need of parent volunteers for the two days. We will need people to cook, transport luggage, and supervise overnight. You will be asked to commit to volunteering sometime between Registration and the first day of school. If you are interested in volunteering, it is most important that you have completed the “Safeguarding All of Gods Family” training and other requirements of the Protecting God’s Children program. If you are interested in volunteering and are not a trained volunteer, please consider getting the training as soon as possible. The last thing we want to make you aware of is the cost. The cost will be $45.00 per student, and you will need to turn that money in at Registration on August 11th.

We look forward to a successful camp experience in September. And, we thank you in advance for considering volunteering your services to help with camp. If you have any questions about the Camp Vista event, please contact me.

Your servant in Catholic Education,

About Camp Vista

The Vista was established in 1961 by the late Fr. Joseph A. Fischer.
His vision and goal was to provide a natural setting where people of all socio-economic, cultural and religious backgrounds could enjoy the outdoor environment and learn how to bring Christ's love to others.  Camp Vista continues to operate today in the spirit of Fr. Joseph Fischer as an inspiring gathering place to become more aware of and develop our God given talents. Vista "Wee Yon Wa Untka", Sioux Indian for Our Lady of Hope, is a place of refreshment and new beginnings for those who take time in their busy lives to experience God's presence there.

In our complex secular society, all of us need places where we can slow down and experience the Kingdom of God, at least for a little while, in order that we can be a clearer sign of God's love in our families, schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces.

The natural beauty invites one to walk slowly for a while down the paths carved through fields and woods; to see wisps of clouds reflected in the smooth surface of the lake; to tune in to the sounds of the Vista - the whistling and chattering of birds, the song of the wind in the pine trees - chirping of crickets and frogs - the excited cries of youngsters on the sports field.  These many sounds are reminders of the creative presence of God.

Those who come to the Vista also experience the constant efforts by camp leaders
and staff to help everyone experience friendship, love, compassion, honesty and forgiveness.

You are invited to come to Camp Vista
